Gaetano Di Gregorio was born in Catania, Sicily in 1972. Since he was 19 he was been living in Caltagirone, where he started to work with ceramics. Then he moved to Venice where he graduated in Architecture and where he actually lives, combining his work as architect, ceramist and designer.
His artistic process often puts together different materials applied to ceramics.Emphasis is placed on the process, favoring the narrative and serial dimension that dialogues with memory and the environment, and becomes conveyer of poetic instances,at times of paradox.
In 2006 he got a grant from GAI (Giovani Artisti Italiani), a governative institution promoting programs of international mobility for young artists ands he moved to Jingdezhen, China, where he experimented with porcelain techniques.
He spent 4 weeks artist residency in Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute.
In 2003, together with other artists, he founded Spiazzi, an independent cultural center of visual arts and design in Venice, where he teaches pottery. Close to Arsenale, the center cooperates with Biennale di Venezia hosting Collateral Events and National Participations. Spiazzi promotes self produced design, organizing Manos, a temporary show taking place in Venice, Milan, Helsinki and other venues from 2006.
In 2008 he first showed his design collection including vases and teapots in Salone Satellite, a well known platform for young talents promotion in the Salone internazionale del Mobile in Milan. After that, his ceramic products were exhibited in Milan, in Germany, Finland, Turkey and Brasil, in international Design Fairs. Some of his works are acquired by public and private collections as the Art Institute of Chicago.
Starting from 2014 he teaches Design Methodology at IED Istituto Europeo del Design, international University for design. He teaches in Venice and coordinates the Interior Design department.
